PETIT PALAIS HOTEL

Commercial
Overview

Petit Palais Hotel is one of the oldest hotels in Pano Platres, a mountain resort in the Troodos range at 1,200 metres above sea level. Originally established in the 1930s — possibly earlier, when the building operated under the name Grand Brittania — the hotel has been a landmark at the centre of Platres for nearly a century, hosting guests from across the Middle East and Europe during Platres’ golden era as a mountain retreat.

ASD Sotiriou undertook the full structural design of the renovation and expansion, structural strengthening of the existing building, and construction supervision. The existing four-storey structure, built on load-bearing masonry walls, required systematic assessment and strengthening to meet current seismic code requirements. The strengthening programme combined RC jacketing of selected elements, carbon fibre reinforcement (CFRP) for localised upgrades, and a new steel frame to accommodate the building’s additions and altered load paths.

The renovation included a new floor addition and the structural design of a new passenger lift core integrated into the existing structure. The restaurant extension features a cantilevered terrace with panoramic views over the Troodos forest, achieved through a steel structure solution that minimised intervention into the historic masonry fabric below.

ASD provided complete structural design services and full construction supervision throughout the project, which reopened in 2021 under the management of the George Tsanos Group. The architect was Lazarou & Michael Partner Architects.
