HOUSE IN AGIOS ATHANASIOS

Featured, Residential, Long Spans
Overview

A private residence in Agios Athanasios, Limassol, where exposed in-situ concrete and a landmark steel pergola define the architectural character.

The house spans two storeys above ground with a full basement, completed in 2011. The design centres on the interplay of raw concrete and a prominent steel pergola structure — a 6m cantilever that serves as both a structural statement and the defining visual element of the exterior.

The primary structural system is a reinforced concrete frame on a raft foundation. Achieving the exposed concrete finish demanded rigorous formwork specification and close site coordination throughout construction, as surface quality was central to the architectural intent. The steel pergola required careful connection detailing at its interface with the concrete frame to carry the 6m cantilever loads cleanly and without visible fixings. A structural glass staircase added a further layer of complexity — a bespoke element requiring precise integration with the surrounding concrete structure and specialist glazing coordination.

ASD Sotiriou provided full structural design services, working in close collaboration with Lazarou & Michael Partner Architects.
